This meeting is open to county committee delegates, alternates and candidates for High Bailiff. Other interested parties should contact pd@benndems.org.
No Democratic candidate qualified to appear on the August 11 Democratic Primary ballot for Bennington County High Bailiff.
While Democratic voters will still have the opportunity to cast write-in votes during the Primary, Vermont law may also authorize the County Committee to nominate a Democratic candidate following the Primary if no candidate qualifies through that process.
To prepare for that possibility, the Bennington County Democratic Committee will conduct an open and transparent candidate selection process before the Primary.
A Specially Warned Meeting will be held:
Sunday, August 2, 2026
6:00 PM
Interested candidates should submit the following to chair@benndems.org:
Letter of Intent
Brief Biography
Recent Photograph
Contact Information
Submission Deadline:
Thursday, July 30
6:00 PM
Candidates will have an opportunity to present their qualifications and answer questions from committee members before the county committee votes.
If necessary, multiple rounds of voting will be conducted until one candidate receives a majority of votes cast.
The committee's selection will not immediately place a candidate on the General Election ballot. Rather, it will identify the committee's preferred nominee should a committee nomination ultimately become necessary under Vermont law following the Democratic Primary.
This process intends to give interested candidates a fair opportunity to be heard while ensuring the committee can meet the incredibly tight statutory deadlines established by Vermont election law.
