Bennington County Democrats Lead on Housing, Community Action, and Building a Brighter Future

Bennington, VT — The Bennington County Democrats (BennDems) are making housing and community collaboration top priorities as they work to build a brighter future for the region. This summer, BennDems focused on bringing organizations, leaders, and residents together to better understand local challenges — and to take action.

In April, BennDems hosted a housing and homelessness panel featuring leaders from the Housing & Homelessness Alliance of Vermont, End Homelessness Vermont, the Bennington County Coalition for the Homeless, and the Bennington Housing Authority. In May, the committee partnered with Bennington County Habitat for Humanity for a community session that highlighted real stories from homeowners, volunteers, and Habitat leadership.

During Mayfest, thanks to a donation from the West family, BennDems offered Miir “Voter” mugs as thank-you gifts for contributions, raising $418 for Habitat for Humanity. The committee also joined Habitat’s Dome to Home event in Montpelier, helping build panels for a Manchester home on the steps of the Vermont State House, and later volunteered on-site for Habitat’s latest project in Bennington.

“Affordable, safe housing is foundational to a thriving community,” said Beth Sturgeon, BennDems Political Director. “When we roll up our sleeves and work together, we create real, lasting impact for our neighbors.”

Looking ahead, Vermont’s biennial reorganization process begins September 12 and runs through the end of the month. Town caucuses will elect local leaders and select delegates for the Bennington County Democratic Committee, which will convene in October, followed by the Vermont Democratic State Committee in November.

“This is a pivotal moment for anyone who believes in creating positive change,” said Jonathan West, Chair of the Bennington County Democrats. “Reorganization isn’t just about electing leaders — it’s about shaping priorities, strengthening our community, and building a better future for Bennington County and Vermont.”
