Bennington County Democrats Celebrate Historic Growth and Momentum Following 2025 Town Committee Reorganization

Bennington, VT — The Bennington County Democratic Committee (BennDems) is celebrating the successful completion of its 2025 Town Committee Reorganization, marking a major milestone in strengthening grassroots Democratic leadership and preparing for the critical elections ahead.

Every two years, Vermont law requires all political parties to hold reorganization meetings in every town, electing local leaders and laying the foundation for county and state committees. This state-mandated process ensures that the party remains democratic, accountable, and deeply connected to the communities it serves. The 2025 reorganization, held throughout Bennington County, was one of the most successful in memory, both in participation and in outcomes.

Since the last reorganization in 2023, Bennington County Democrats have experienced a remarkable 40% growth in membership, the largest percentage increase of any county Democratic committee in Vermont. That growth has brought new energy, new leadership, and broader community involvement, with residents across the county stepping forward to serve as town chairs, officers, and delegates. Many towns saw expanded participation and renewed commitment, as longtime members returned and new voices joined the movement, united by a shared determination to strengthen democracy from the ground up.

“The success of this reorganization shows the strength and spirit of Democrats across Bennington County,” said Jonathan West, Chair of the Bennington County Democratic Committee. “This is more than a procedural requirement; it’s a moment to recommit ourselves to the work ahead. With our party growing faster than any other county in Vermont, we are building the grassroots foundation we need to win in 2026 and to be ready to take our country back in 2028.”

Beth Sturgeon, Political Director of the Bennington County Democrats, underscored the importance of this milestone and the opportunity it represents: “The enthusiasm we’ve seen during this reorganization is inspiring. People are not just showing up, they’re stepping up. They’re bringing fresh ideas, renewed energy, and a real sense of purpose to the work we’re doing. That matters because building lasting change starts right here in our towns. What we’re building now will ripple outward, to the county, to the state, and all the way to 2028.”

With new town committees formed and leadership in place, BennDems is now preparing for its upcoming County Committee Reorganization Meeting on Saturday, October 11, 2025, where county officers will be elected and the strategic priorities for the next two years will be set. The meeting will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bennington Free Library (Second Floor), 101 Silver Street, Bennington, VT, with virtual participation available by request by emailing chair@benndems.org.

The reorganization process represents more than a structural reset, it is the heartbeat of grassroots democracy. With strong leadership at the town level and record growth in participation, Bennington County Democrats are entering this next chapter with renewed determination, ready to meet the challenges of the coming years and committed to building a future rooted in justice, equity, and opportunity for all.
